Yoga for a Healthy BackA healthy back requires a balance of stability, strength and flexibility throughout the muscles of the spine, pelvis, legs and arms. Having a healthy nervous system including the ability to relax and decrease stress also impacts pain and the function of the muscles that contribute to back pain. A balanced Yoga practice incorporating Asana, Prananyama and Meditation can enable you to achieve the proper function of your back and to decrease pain. This course will introduce you to the anatomy of the back and pelvis and to the muscles that help to stabilize the spine as well as to the muscles that support the spine with proper strength and flexibility. You will be led through a practice of asana, pranayama and meditation that focuses on core stability as well as strength and flexibility of the body in a way to create a healthy back. Modifications in the presence of pain and injury will be addressed. This is a four hour course.
Yoga for a Healthy NeckA healthy neck requires a balance of stability, strength and flexibility throughout the muscles of the neck, upper back and shoulders. Having a healthy nervous system including the ability to relax and decrease stress also impacts pain and the function of the muscles that contribute to neck pain. A balanced Yoga practice incorporating Asana, Pranayama and Meditation can enable you to achieve the proper function of the neck and shoulders to decrease pain. This course will focus on the anatomy of the neck including the interplay between the neck, shoulders, and the rest of the spine and pelvis. The anatomy and physiology of neck pain and its relationship to the nervous system will be addressed. You will be led through a practice of Asana, Pranayama and meditation that focuses on stabilization as well as strength and flexibility of the body in a way to create a healthy neck. Modifications in the presence of pain and injury will be addressed. This is a four hour course.
Yoga and the Nervous SystemThe breath is the link between the body and mind. Through Asana, Pranayama and Meditation you can change and alter the nervous system and influence the mind and body. This course will introduce you to the automonic nervous system, its influence on the mind and body as well as practices to balance the nervous system. You will be led through a yoga practice incorporating asana, pranayama and meditation techniques focusing on their impact on the nervous system. This is a three hour course.
Yoga for Cyclists: co-taught with Melissa Katz RYTIn this workshop you will learn the muscles used in the mechanics of cycling as well as the postural and musculoskeletal imbalances that occur as a result of cycling. The workshop will include individual analysis of your own imbalances as well as yoga postures to correct those imbalances. We will also address postures that can be practiced after cycling as counterposes to your time on the bike. This is a four hour course.
Posture FocusLearning the anatomy behind postures will help you to find a deeper expression and understanding of how to come into a posture safely and effectively. In this course we will focus on 3-4 postures of your own choosing. We will look at the anatomy behind the posture as well as which postures or movements would most effectively warm up your body. We will explore modifications that will help you move into the posture or will help you experience the posture more fully. This is a 3-4 hour course depending on the number of postures we explore.
